Workshop Assistant

Part-Time | Dallas, TX | Immediate Start

Marcello Andres Ceramics is a Dallas-based studio producing handmade ceramic tableware for leading restaurants, hotels, and design clients. Our studio hosts publics, private, and corporate workshops on a regular basis and we are seeking a part-time Workshop Assistant to help run them.

This is a hands-on, guest-facing role for someone with ceramics experience who enjoys teaching beginners and wants an ongoing position within a workshop program that runs year-round.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Workshop Assistant works alongside the instructor across the full arc of each session — setting up the room, preparing clay and stations, supporting participants during the workshop, labeling and firing their work, and resetting the studio afterward. For private and corporate groups, this role is part of how the studio shows up to a client.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up the workshop space — tables, seating, tool kits, water, aprons, surface protection, and signage
  • Weigh and portion clay per participant and stage materials where the instructor needs them
  • Prepare wheels and handbuilding stations so each is ready and equally equipped before guests arrive
  • Greet and seat participants and orient them to their station
  • Work the room during the session, supporting participants who are stuck and keeping pace with the instructor
  • Demonstrate handbuilding and wheel technique to individual participants as directed
  • Keep stations supplied with clay, water, slip, and tools throughout the session
  • Label every participant piece accurately so work returns to the right person after firing
  • Move finished work to drying shelves and prepare it for bisque and glaze firing
  • Package fired pieces for participant pickup
  • Break down the workshop, clean tools and surfaces, and reclaim usable clay
  • Reset the studio so the space is production-ready for the following work day
  • Report depleted workshop supplies with enough notice to reorder before the next session
  • Available to glaze any pieces from workshops (later that week or the following week)
  • Role could evolve into leading workshops, coordinating with attendees, and communicating to participants when pieces are ready

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Hands-on ceramics experience, with enough command of handbuilding and the wheel to guide a complete beginner through a project
  • Warm, patient, and professional presence with groups, including corporate and private clients
  • Availability on evenings and weekends, when most workshops take place
  • Interest in an ongoing role — we'd like the same familiar face running workshops with us month to month
  • Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality; workshop call times are fixed
  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs and be on your feet for the length of a session

Preferred

  • Prior experience teaching, assisting, or facilitating ceramics classes or workshops
  • Experience in a community studio, education program, or university ceramics program
  • Experience with corporate, team-building, or private-event programming
  • Familiarity with kiln loading and firing schedules

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Part-time and workshop-based; hours vary with the workshop calendar and there is no guaranteed minimum
  • Sessions typically run four to five hours, including setup and breakdown
  • Studio-based role in Dallas (Cedars neighborhood)
  • Hands-on production environment with clay, plaster, and kilns
  • Collaborative, respectful, and craft-driven team culture

COMPENSATION & START

  • Part-time position, paid hourly for all scheduled hours including setup and breakdown
  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Immediate start
