Production Assistant
Production Assistant
Full-Time | Dallas, TX | Immediate Start
Marcello Andres Ceramics is a Dallas-based studio producing handmade ceramic tableware for leading restaurants, hotels, and design clients. We are seeking a full-time Production Assistant to join our studio production team.
This is a hands-on, technical production role for someone with ceramics experience who wants to build range across the full process and work in a craft-forward production environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Production Assistant works across every stage of studio production — preparing and pouring slip, demolding and finishing pieces, glazing, loading and unloading kilns, caring for plaster molds, and keeping the wet shop running. The work is detail-oriented and held to documented studio standards.
This is a generalist role. We're looking for someone with real hands-on experience in at least one area of ceramic production — slip casting, cleaning pieces on the wheel, kilns, glazing, or mold making — who wants to be trained in the rest. Recent and upcoming ceramics graduates are encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, mix, test, and maintain casting slip
- Pour molds and maintain thickness and quality of each piece
- Trim, demold, and carefully store cast pieces
- Clean and finish pieces on the wheel and by hand to studio standards
- Sand and prepare greenware and bisque ware for glazing
- Apply glaze per studio specifications
- Load and unload kilns according to firing schedules
- Inventory and care for plaster molds (one-part and multi-part)
- Track and manage mold drying cycle times and rotations
- Document all pieces poured on a daily basis in our system
- Monitor and troubleshoot warping, cracking, and defects
- Maintain inventory of clay, slip, and glaze materials, flagging low stock before it runs out
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized casting, glaze, and wet shop areas
- Support broader studio production and events as needed
QUALIFICATIONS

- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
Preferred
- Formal training or coursework in a university or college ceramics program
- Experience in batch or production ceramic environments
- Experience with plaster mold making and repair
- Knowledge of glaze chemistry and kiln firing
- Willing to support during seasonal wood-firing efforts (preparing pieces, loading and unloading the kiln)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a one-hour unpaid meal period
- Studio-based role in Dallas (Cedars neighborhood)
