Marcello Andres Ceramics is a Dallas-based studio producing handmade ceramic tableware for leading restaurants, hotels, and design clients. We are seeking a full-time Pouring Assistant / Slip Casting Technician to own and manage our slip-casting ceramic production.

This is a hands-on, technical production role for someone with prior experience in ceramics and slip casting who enjoys building systems, maintaining consistency, and working in a craft-forward production environment.

About the Role

The Pouring Assistant / Slip Casting Technician is responsible for executing and maintaining all aspects of slip casting production including kiln firings. This includes preparing slip, pouring and demolding pieces, maintaining plaster molds, monitoring drying and shrinkage, loading and unloading kilns, and ensuring consistent quality across production runs.

This is not an entry-level role. Prior ceramic experience required, with a preference for experience with slip casting. 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, mix, test, and maintain casting slip
  • Pour molds and maintain thickness and quality of each piece
  • Trim, demold, and carefully store casted pieces
  • Inventory and take care of plaster molds (one-part and multi-part)
  • Track and manage mold drying cycle times and rotations
  • Document all pieces that are poured on a daily basis in our system
  • Monitor and troubleshoot warping, cracking, and defects
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized casting and wet shop areas
  • Load and unload kilns as needed
  • Track production output, quality, and improvements
  • Support broader studio production as needed
  • Identify, iterate, and build systems for best practices around the studio

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years hands-on experience in a ceramic studio or production environment
  • Demonstrated experience with slip casting and mold-based production
  • Strong understanding of ceramic materials, drying behavior, and firing outcomes
  • Ability to work independently and manage a consistent production workflow
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs

Preferred

  • Experience with plaster mold making and repair
  • Experience in batch or industrial ceramic production
  • Knowledge of glaze chemistry and kiln firing
  • Experience documenting technical workflows or training others
  • Willing to support during seasonal wood-firing efforts (preparing pieces, loading and unloading the kiln)

Work Environment

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week with a consistent schedule
  • Studio-based role in Dallas (Cedars neighborhood)
