Glazing Assistant

Full-Time | Dallas, TX | Immediate Start

Marcello Andres Ceramics is a Dallas-based studio producing handmade ceramic tableware for leading restaurants, hotels, and design clients. We are seeking a full-time Glazing Assistant to own and manage our glazing workflows during ceramic production.

This is a hands-on, technical production role for someone with prior experience in ceramics and glazing who enjoys building systems, maintaining consistency, and working in a craft-forward production environment.

About the Role

The Glazing Assistant is responsible for executing and maintaining all aspects of glazing including kiln firings. This includes maintaining glaze spaces, mixing and testing glazes, executing various application techniques, loading and unloading kilns, and ensuring consistent quality across production runs.

This is not an entry-level role. Prior ceramic experience required, with a preference for experience with glazing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, mix, sieve, and test production glazes to ensure consistency.
  • Execute glaze application via dipping, pouring, and brushing.
  • Prepare bisque ware for glazing (cleaning, sponging, and wax-resisting).
  • Thoroughly clean and maintain all surfaces.
  • Maintain inventory and upkeep of glazes and glazing tools
  • Track and manage drying cycle times and rotations.
  • Document all pieces that are glazed on a daily basis in our system.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot glaze defects.
  • Load and unload kilns as needed.
  • Track production output, quality, and improvements.
  • Support broader studio production as needed.
  • Identify, iterate, and build systems for best practices around the studio.
  • Communicate low inventory levels to the glaze lead.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years hands-on experience in a ceramic studio or production environment
  • Demonstrated experience with glazing. 
  • Strong understanding of ceramic materials, drying behavior, and firing outcomes
  • High level of comfort using drills, mixers
  • Ability to work independently and manage a consistent production workflow
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs

Preferred

  • 1+ years of experience with glazing 
  • Experience in batch or industrial ceramic production
  • Knowledge of glaze chemistry and kiln firing
  • Experience documenting technical workflows or training others
  • Willing to support during seasonal wood-firing efforts (preparing pieces, loading and unloading the kiln)

Work Environment

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week with a consistent schedule
  • Studio-based role in Dallas (Cedars neighborhood)
